KINGSTON Heath, one of the world's great golf courses, is adopting a new face for this week's Women's Australian Open.

Golf Australia has changed the order of holes played, for the purposes of television and spectators, and has eliminated the original hole around which the course was designed by Dan Soutar in 1925.

The absence of the brilliant, short par-three 10th hole from the championship layout has caused consternation among Kingston Heath members. It is one of the most photographed holes in Melbourne golf and noted because Soutar began his design at that hole and worked around it.

This week, the women will play a different par three, which was put in by the club some years ago as a "19th hole". -- MARTIN BLAKE
